Week 3: Social networking – Facebook and Twitter

With week 7 already up on the ning, it's probably appropriate that I post something for week 3. I've setup a Facebook page and a twitter account, and have had time to thoroughly forget the passwords. Facebook's policy for that is rather uphelpful, after following all the steps to reset it I was told to wait for 24 hours before trying to log back in.

'But then what', I thought. Facebook was silent.

As it turns out, 24 hours later Facebook e-mailed me a password. Thanks, but couldn't I have been told that would happen? Free moral: write down your passwords.

I'm not convinced of Facebook and Twitter's usefulness to a library. It's rather difficult for me to concieve of a building/organization participating in social networking. But I suppose it's another way to let people know what's going on in or around or through libraries.

#week 2 learndings

This week I learned that 'wiki' means 'quick' in Hawaiian. Also, 'ning' means 'peace' in Chinese. Actually, I learned those things in the last couple of minutes.

I also learned that what I thought was a calm-natured, girl-duck has grown bigger than my other two ducks (a trait usually associated with boy-ducks). Hmm...

And Alex just told me that 'trait' is not spelled t-r-a-i-g-h-t. Julia has confirmed this. What a busy week I've had. All these things will be easy to integrate into my work because I have so much interaction with the public. It's always good to have little information tidbits close to the tip of my mind to help create a library atmosphere that's a person's 'third place'.

#Week 2 Blogs/Wikis/Nings and Setting up Your Own Blog
